ANOTHER ASSAULT

I recently came across this joke. ‘MEN ARE LIKE BANK ACCOUNTS, WITHOUT A LOT OF BALANCE, THEY DON’T ATTRACT INTEREST’

This is an offence to both men and women and to think that someone can so substandard is a disgrace.

Girls are called submissive, emotional and dependent. We were in need of unity, power, a voice. Boosters like girl power and me too was our helpline. Women and girls from various nations were coming together to stand as a team. But against what?

Rapists? Assaulters?

Men.

But I am here, wanting to talk about another assault. A different one.About which we knew but not cared enough. Not a physical one, but emotional.

Feminism was called upon to promote the idea of fairness and equality amidst all genders. I suppose, us feminists were to busy setting free women, we forgot about the other victims.

Boys, All over the world with a whole lot of pressure on them.

They cant cry, they play sports.

They cant wear pink, they are tough.

They don’t cook, they don’t clean,

They are “AMBITIOUS”

Every boy is looked at either as an unfaithful rapist, or an nonathletic geek.

Every boy is seen with the eye of suspicion because of other guilty men.

Every boy has his own hardships.

Dear society,

Boys do cry,

Boys too fear,

Boys are hurt,

Boys too cook

For every girl who is tired of acting weak when she is strong, there is a boy tired of acting strong when he is vulnerable.

For every girl who is tired of being called oversensitive, there is a boy who fears to be gentle, to weep.

For every girl who is sick of kitchen sets and barbie dolls there is a boy wishing he would find one.

According to society, every boy needs to provide bread to the house and every girl needs to toast it.

When my brother ask me why he couldn’t join a classical dance class with me, I told him, ‘they’d laugh at you.’

This was not me being a short sighted person, this was me being a part of this society. It will take time, to sink in.

It will take time for both men and women to adapt to this new way of being. But a feminist’s responsibility remains, to make every gender feel as powerful and important as the other.

I am a feminist.

No, I don’t hate men,

No, I don’t think men are evil,

No, I don’t think all men are rapists,

Yes, I stand with them,

Yes, I want equality for all genders,

Yes, I am a feminist.
